Why Mango Tree Wood?

Mangoes are beloved for their sweet and tangy flavors, but in Thailand, From the fragrant sweetness of ripe mangoes to dishes like mango sticky rice or tangy mango preserves, the fruit has been a favorite for its delicious flavors. Also the mango tree is also transformed into a beautiful home décor.

Mango in a different light

Who would have thought the humble mango tree could be transformed into stunning home décor? In Thailand, skilled artisans craft the wood into beautiful, luxurious pieces in various shapes and designs. Today, these mango wood products are recognized worldwide as valuable and elegant exports.

Here’s how it’s done

Mango tree which no longer bearing fruit

It starts by finding old mango trees, which are often no longer bearing fruit. Farmers clear the land to make way for new crops, and sometimes, they simply burn the old trees.

Cutting the Wood

The mature mango tree is cut into sections while it's still fresh, with each piece sized perfectly for the product. For larger pieces, multiple sections may need to be joined together.

Shaping the Wood

The outer bark and outer wood layers are shaved off, and the piece is shaped.

Drying Process

Each piece that has been shaped goes through a drying process. This step is crucial to ensure the wood retains its form, becomes stronger, and is protected from insects and mold.

Once the paint is dry

Carving the Design

The product is carefully hand-carved to create intricate patterns.

This step requires a highly skilled artisan because one mistake in the carving process can ruin the entire piece, reducing it to firewood.
